Peruvian High-Altitude Winery

Who We Are

We are a husband-and-wife team. Malka, my wife, is Peruvian, and I am Gary, originally from England. We are both Sommeliers, WSET-educated, and run a wine tourism company operating in many countries worldwide. We have lived in Argentina, Chile, Turkey, Georgia and are now based back in Peru.

This new vineyard project will eventually produce small volumes of wine, well, with my input, of course! I hope it will be palatable when we finally get there! Feel free to continue reading to learn more and watch some of our videos below as we advance:

What have we been up to?

Here are some of our antics!

Starting the Vineyard

We planted our first vines, in black plastic bags, in August of 2024. These first vines were created from Syrah cuttings purchased at the Apu winery (shown above), also high in the Andes. We added some Muscat cuttings a month or so later, sourced at a friend’s farm in the Sacred Valley. As of March 2026, the vines have grown for approximately 18 months and have been replanted into our vineyard soil.

Learning On The Fly!

While it’s true that we are reasonably experienced wine professionals, Sommeliers, WSET-educated and run a wine tourism company, we actually have no formal training in viticulture or winemaking. We are learning on the fly and loving the process. We ask questions of winemakers that we meet around Latin America, and read the many resources you find online. You can indeed learn a lot from YouTube!

More Planting

In March 2026, we returned to Peru from our annual stay in Chile. Our vines have grown a little in our absence. During the coming year, I will be focusing on propagating our existing vines to increase the vineyard, to double or perhaps triple the size. Some of this expansion will be made using layering (see the video), some will be new plantings on their own roots, and we will also be grafting, more on that later. I will also try to source some new varieties in Arequipa and Moquegua.
